Work In Progress :: F/A-18 D

[Newest updates and pictures on top of page, Im not that concerned with
making thumbnails for WIP pages -- expect filesize to be fairly big]

[07 08 2001] - I'm almost done with the modeling of this new project I'm working on, so thought I'd let you in and see how it looks so far.

A bit older test renders:

The F/A-18D, which is the model I'm doing here, is one of the older ones that will continue to pull duty for quite a while into the future, even though its smaller than its new brothers [F/A-18E/F] it packs a formidable punch to and beyond the frontlines. The D version is a dual seater and this particular version will be in the ownership of the U.S. Marines, and although smaller than the newer Super Hornet its 11.5 wingspan and 17 length have carried pilots safe to strike their targets and back home. In real life some 48 D versions have been configured as the F/A-18D (RC) reconnaissance version with various small changes..

This D version is primarily built for a SFX sequence I'm working on where 2 of them will perform maneuvers and deliver ordinance onto a target.

After that sequence it will also be slightly reconfigured to act as a chase plane for a JSF model/animation I'm working on.

Most off the movable "objects" are already set up with sliders, such as ailerons, airbrake, canopy, burner can and other "gizmos". Currently I'm researching the different ordinance and paint schemes I need to put onto this thing, feel free to email any suggestions ;)

Ike : N/A ::: Fantastic modeling!!! You modeled it in Max 5.1? -- Where can we find turorials on creating the level of detail you create in your models? Your edges and details are sharp and accurate. Do you use the vertex weighting to get that level of detail and edge presision? Just point me in the right direction.
